Look What I Found....

This site is more of just a quick link to a lesson plan for math and arts integrated lesson, than it is for arts integration strategies.. but the lesson it links up to is definitely one I’d like to try in the near future! The lesson is called Venn Silhouette, and as the name implies, it has the students using both Venn diagrams and a silhouette to explore math and art related topics.  Some vocabulary that the lesson covers is overlap, same, different, compare, contrast, survey, graph, certain, equally, likely, unlikely, impossible, and profile.  I like that at the end of the lesson, it allows for a gallery walk, extension activities like graphing and “I wonder” questions to promote speaking and listening skills.

If you look around the website, click on the blog and resource links for other activities that are arts integrated, or some lessons that you could tweak.

Right from the homepage of the site:
Education closet is a site with ‘curated resources to help you on your integration journey’

http://educationcloset.com/start-here-with-arts-integration/  GO HERE and CLICK ON ALL THE LINKS!! J Some links include:

The links at the top are user friendly and take you to great arts integrated lesson plans that are ready to go! The search engine shows you the lesson description, classroom content, fine arts content, and grade level band all at a quick glance. When you select a lesson, an easy to read PDF pops up and is ready to add to your curriculum engine! Super easy.

Another fantastic thing I love about this site is the ‘strategies’ tab that links you to you guessed it, strategies! A drop down bar lets you choose professional development, visual arts, music, drama, or dance.  From there, you can study up on or learn new ways to teach the chosen subject and incorporate it into your core content standards lesson plan.

  1. I looked at your first website and I really think its golden and something I would use. I enjoy how its more than a quick link to a lesson plan and more about helpful strategies. My philosophy is that you never have enough strategies! Strategies is what drives quality instruction. I would like to even try the Venn Silhouette lesson with my second graders. I am using venn diagrams this week already, it will be a great extension into further lessons of mine! Also, my second graders really enjoy gallery walks, so I think it will be perfect.

I wrote about education closet too! I really enjoy that website too! It will be a great resource for all teachers to use.

  2. Your link to the Education Closet is a great resource! I will definitely have to bookmark it for whenever I'm stuck while lesson planning. I have been trying to think of ways to use movement to help my APUSH kids memorize an endless death march of facts, figures, and dates for their upcoming AP exam, and I have struggled to think of a way to do so that students would feel comfortable with and is also something we could all accomplish. I found a strategy about tying dance to cause and effect. I'm sure I could make good use of that.

    Thanks for sharing! :)

  3. I also checked out the Education Closet. It seems like a really good jumping off point. I did notice that their lesson plans seemed pretty sparse. But again, they would be a great framework on which to build off of.

I really enjoyed seeing how the different sites have approached Arts Integration in their own way. Education Closet seemed pretty user friendly and it's definitely one that I will bookmark for later use!
