ELA - Joy
Here is one of the better places I found -http://www.edutopia.org/stw-arts-integration This shows how arts integration is working with Wiley H. Bates Middle School, a public school in Annapolis, Maryland. This follows a school that began its journey in integration in 2009. They are listed as a "School that Works". I thought this might help those of you in a secondary setting.
Believe it or not, there are some great examplars for arts integration in Pinterest. http://www.pinterest.com/edutopia/arts-integration/ They have some great arts work that you could use with your lessons. You will also find ideas of how this will work together.
The best however is still ARTSEDGE - The lesson on All Around the Baseball Field is fablous! It itegrats art, ELA, Math and movement. This lesson could be used in any grade level. There is so much that could be done within this lesson. It has a step-by-step lesson outline with any essential questions along with reflective writing journal starters.http://www.softchalkcloud.com/scorecenter/lit/Qav3yRkbCz2Hzl.
I have to agree with joy about Pintrest. It is great in getting ideas and has fantastic links to integrated lessons for all ages. WARNING..Once you get on time will fly by! I didn't think to look for arts integrated lessons though. I am excited to go and look now.
ReplyDeleteGoing to edutopia, it is basded on Bates Middle School but the interesting thing was the inclusion of task cards, exit tickets, and quizes. The other part that was interesting was that the lesson plan was seperated from the Art integrated activity.
Joy-
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe that Pintrest has items that are quality. I have never "done" Pintrest so maybe your post will push me to research it and try. Laikealoha- It sounds like you DO go onto Pintrest and lose yourself in your searches. I will keep this in mind and plan for plenty of time when I decide to look there. Joy, I agree with you that ArtsEdge is fabulous and the baseball lesson was very integrated and could be used in all grades (with modifications of course). I have read on several posts about Edutopia so I guess I will have to check that one out as well. Thank you for your great ideas.
Joy, thank you so much for sharing! I absolutely love Pinterest, but didn't realize it was another place to steal (I mean borrow) more lesson plans! Aside from the lessons, I also like to see the clever little pieces to incorporate into our classroom in order to create an atmosphere where students feel safe, comfortable, and visually stimulated.
ReplyDeleteThanks for thinking of us secondary folks out there. I sometimes feel that everything is so aimed at the elementary level, but this shows how arts integration can be very possible at the secondary level as well. I also found many other great things on the edutopia website. As I was searching for websites to share, I found an entire page on there with great arts integrated lesson plans for middle school.
ReplyDeleteI, too, am surprised by the Pinterest inclusion. I saw the link when I was searching for arts integration, but I kind of blew over that one once I saw Pinterest. I am glad that you were more open than I was to click on that link and find some good stuff. This just shows me that I may find some awesome ideas in some really random and odd places that I would never think of exploring. Thanks for helping me keep an open mind!
